Monday Memo

This week we're talking about:

• What everyone in the world of books in New York is talking about today (besides the Oscars)–– The New York Times has the exclusive story on new editors at the The New York Review of Books, and we're delighted to add that A Public Space and NYRB are offering a limited-time, special introduction to both publications for new subscribers right now.
• Other current partnerships we'd like you to know about: A Public Space is a media sponsor for the Festival Neue Literatur, a fantastically cosmopolitan, innovative and essential conversation between German-language writers and writers living and working in America, happening in New York City in March; and, A Public Space is a featured partner in the Strand Bookstore's March subscription box, The Book HookUp (Fiction), which will include a highly-collectible issue of APS, plus a signed first edition copy of Helen Oyeyemi's new novel, Gingerbread, and more.
• Our new class of 2019 Fellows will be announced on Wednesday, via our mailing list. If you're not yet signed up, join us (scroll down to the bottom of this screen) to hear the news first.
• This Tuesday in New York, we'll be at the PEN America Literary Awards, cheering for finalist Jamel Brinkley, author of A Lucky Man, and whose work first appeared in A Public Space. And another writer who debuted in the magazine, Jamil Jan Kochai, received a standout review from the New York Times for his new book, 99 Nights in Logar: "funny, razor-sharp and full of juicy tales that feel urgent and illicit... The author has created a singular, resonant voice."
• Elizabeth Gaffney's popular novel workshop focuses on a manuscript-in-progress, and is enrolling now at A Public Space Academy, which continues to thrive and expand, with a new seasonal roster of one-day master classes and ongoing workshops designed to nurture and develop creative writing skills for aspiring and published authors and serious readers alike. And, we're partnering with Well-Read Black Girl to present Camille Rankine's workshop on "Words in Action." Visit WRBG's recent Instagram post for details on a special code, and an APS contest, too.
• Marilyn Hacker's poem, Calligraphies IX, which appears in new APS No. 27, and which we've unlocked, free and for all to read this week.
