A Public Space welcomes submissions of fiction, essays, translations, and poetry; as well as non-categorizable work that experiments with genre and form.

A Public Space Fellowships

A Public Space offers three Writing Fellowships annually to fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writers who have not yet published a book-length work. More information about the program, including details on the application and an archive of past writing fellows, is available here.

A Public Space Weekend Writers' Retreat

The Weekend Writers’ Retreat is a long weekend of workshops, literary talks, and evening events that A Public Space hosts annually in the fall at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park in New York’s Hudson Valley.

Programming includes morning workshops, afternoon literary talks and generative exercises, and an array of evening events, including readings and a Saturday celebratory dinner, along with opportunities for informal conversations with authors and editors. Past instructors and speakers include Jo Ann Beard, J. Mae Barizo, Kimberly Burns, Jai Chakrabarti, Griffin Dunne, Nick Flynn, Elizabeth Gaffney, John Haskell, Marie Howe, Mary-Beth Hughes, Samantha Hunt, Amitava Kumar, Ayana Mathis, Ed Park, Rob Spillman, Robert Sullivan, and Peter Trachtenberg, among others.
