30 Americans @ the Barnes
January 12, 2020 The Barnes, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
From the Desk of APS Contributing Editor Robert Sullivan
The reason to squeeze in a last-minute visit this weekend to Philadelphia, to see the tenth anniversary edition of 30 Americans, the traveling exhibition of not just thirty but thirty-one African American artists drawn from Rubell Family Collection is, yes, part logistics. The show’s non-stop U.S. tour is in Philadelphia through this Sunday, January 12, so if you live in the Northeastern U.S., this is the closest you will get for years: the next stop is Hawaii, starting in February, followed by New Mexico and then South Carolina in 2022. The other reason to go is that the show is persistent in its relevance, in big and small ways, local and national.
