About the author
Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) was born in Riga, Latvia , and began his photographic career in Paris , where he photographed many well-known artists and writers , including André Gide, Marc Chagall, Le Corbusier, and André Malraux. He arrived in the United States in 1940, and over the next thirty years his reportage and photography were featured in numerous American magazines, including 101 covers for
LIFE. His JUMP Book includes portraits of 191 jumps by politicians, movie stars, authors, Nobel Prize laureates, athletes, theologians, and others he asked to jump for him.
